Does letting rubber cement dry longer than 5 minutes (e.g. 1 hour) will certainly still be effective when using patch for punctured inner tube? not really sure exactly how rubber cement works.

You are watching: How long for rubber cement to dry

I have couple of questions about rubber cement:

Why should let it dried for about 5 minutes before applying the patch? Won't that eliminate the adhesion?

I have actually some patches right here that doesn't have any kind of adhesion at all, just how will lock stick top top the tube if the rubber cement has dried out and there's no adhesion in ~ all?

What will occur if I use the patch appropriate after using the rubber cement? (Instead that waiting roughly 5 minute before using the patch).

If i let the rubber cement dry for 1 hour and also then that's the only time whereby I'll use the patch... Will that quiet work?

I regularly wait much longer than 5 minutes to make sure it's no wet in ~ all. Not an hour, periodically 20 minutes. Never had a problem. Waiting substantial amounts that time will enable dust to settle on the glue, therefore don't do that.

Are job really expected to have actually no adhesion in ~ all and it rely only from the rubber cement adhesion to have the ability to stick to the tube?

I know of 'self adhesive' patches but these points I have here doesn't have any kind of adhesion in ~ all, room they supposed to be like that?

If it's still also wet, it wont stick the patch come the tube and also you hazard the job sliding everywhere the place. If you leave it for too long it will gain too dry and also wont occupational either. That's why you wait the 5 minutes or so, depending upon how lot you use, therefore the cement gets nice and sticky

I uncovered this thread. A chemist answers exactly how it works. Quite interesting:

Yes, but the techniques are the same. The glue have to be dry to the touch in stimulate to effectively bond to the surface prior to anything is placed on it.
