According to the 2011 Statistics Canada Census, the Community of Hunter River has a population of 294 residents within 155 private dwellings.
The municipality covers 6.08 square kilometers and is located in Queens County in the central portion of Prince Edward Island, South-West of North Rustico.
Its precise location is N 4621'18.1" W 6320'56.2".
Emergency services for the community are provided by

    Municipal Elections are held every four years; the next election is the first Monday in November of 2018, unless a by-election is needed.
    Hunter River is part of the Provincial Election District 18, Rustico-Emerald.
    The district is currently represented by the Hon. Brad Trivers.
    Federally, the community is part of the riding of Malpeque represented currently by the Hon. Wayne Easter.
